Dear Mr. Baker My name is Constantine Dzhabarov and I study Business Administration in Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, USA. I have been badly disappointed when I heard about your intention to cut funding for HIJINX- the only specialist company working with and for people with learning difficulties. I worked as a coordinator of international projects for a number of theatres and theatre agencies in Ukraine (Podol.Arts.Project, Theatre on Podol and First Ukrainian State Theatre Agency) in 1991-1998. The agencies I worked for did several successful projects with HIJINX and those projects had great impact on Ukrainian performing arts and their work with disabled people. HIJINX has accumulated vast experience of work with disabled people and they share their knowledge with other art practitioners both in the UK and overseas. In 1995 Podol.Arts.Project organized a tour of Ukraine for HIJINX. During their tour HIJINX gave two performances and two workshops for theatre practitioners and those working with people with learning difficulties. The tour was widely covered in Ukrainian mass media and in fact HIJINX started the whole new direction for performing arts in Ukraine: performing arts for people with learning difficulties. For us in Ukraine HIJINX is one of the trademarks of Wales and we will be really sorry if they have to stop their work because of the insufficient funding from Welsh arts funding bodies. If you have any questions concerning my work with HIJINX I will be glad to answer them. My fax in school is +503 370 3011 and my email is cdzhabar@willamette.edu. Yours sincerely Constantine Dzhabarov |
