Preparations are hotting up at the Living Willow Theatre for the Voices of Shakespeare Festival which opens on July 4. This is an exciting joint project for Shakespeare Link, whose home is the magical Living Willow Theatre near Rhayader, and their sister company Shakespeare Link Canada from Stratford, Ontario. A team of professional actors and a group of talented young people will be arriving this week to prepare for the ten day festival. Among the visitors are performers in mime, dance and Sign, representatives from the Canadian first nation peoples and a multi-talented dancer/drummer from Mozambique. With a production of Macbeth from the Living Willow Community Company on July 4 and a performance lined up from the breath-taking Beck Sian, Australian singer/songwriter, on July 5 this is at the same time a local and a global event. This marks the next step in a creative exchange between the two countries, as the young Canadians will be joining forces with the acclaimed Mid Powys Youth Theatre who plan to pay a return visit to Ontario next year. Another group of young local talent, Roots and Wings, have come together to create a show especially for the festival “Dihuno y Ddraig – Awakening the Dragon”. The Living Willow Theatre is thrilled to be able to provide a platform for these stars of the future so grab the chance to watch them now and make a note of the names for future award ceremonies! To kick things off and welcome the new arrivals, the bands Walker Nash and Mostly Harmless will be playing midsummer blues on the 28th June. Murray Nash (Walker Nash) and John Baxter (Mostly Harmless) met at the Living Willow Theatre’s opening event of 2008, where a friendship developed and musical possibilities blossomed. Doors open at 6.30pm for a licensed bar and A Midsummer Night’s Blues starts at 7.30pm, with tickets at £5. Tickets for the festival and other events at the theatre are available from: Curio and Welsh Crafts: Builth Wells Arches, Rhayader: 01597 810 921 Verzons Bookshop and Gallery, Llandrindod Wells: 01597 825 171 Or reserve from The Living Willow Theatre office: 01597 811 487 |
