This Autumn Sherman welcome the return of the hit Edinburgh Fringe production, Deep Cut, and an exciting and varied programme of theatre, comedy and dance including a new opera co-written by Ian McEwan, rising star of the dance world Hofesh Shechter and musical comedian Tim Minchin. Following its sell-out run in Edinburgh, Sherman Cymru’s award-winning play, Deep Cut, returns from 16 – 27 September. Deep Cut uses original source material and powerful first hand testimonies of those closest to Private Cheryl James, one of four young soldiers who died from gunshot wounds in unexplained circumstances between 1995 and 2002. The production has been the must-see show of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe winning the prestigious Scotsman Fringe First and Herald Angel awards. Sherman Cymru also continue their reputation for excellent family Christmas entertainment with The Snow Queen and Cinders. The Snow Queen is a new adaptation by acclaimed children’s playwright Charles Way of the Hans Christian Andersen classic tale. The production is directed by Anna Linstrum, whose previous experience includes Associate Director of The Sound of Music in London’s West End. The Snow Queen runs from 28 November – 10 January. Cinders, Sherman Cymru’s production for the under 7s uses music, puppetry, dancing and singing to tell the classic Cinderella story. Written and directed by Louise Osborn, Cinders will be a unique experience for children as they are invited inside the set and the world of the play. Cinders opens at Sherman on 31 October – 1 November before commencing on a tour of Wales, and returning once again to Sherman from 2 – 27 December. The Autumn season includes a fantastic visiting theatre company line-up including Clwyd Theatr Cymru’s Memory which returns to Wales after a highly successful New York tour last year. The play, which is based around two historic moments in modern history – the rise of Hitler and the fall of the Berlin Wall - is on at Sherman on 16 – 20 September. Swansea’s Volcano Theatre Company also visit Sherman with i-witness on 5 – 6 November, which uses video, dance and live performance to take the audience on a journey inspired by the writings of WG Sebald. Music Theatre Wales present an exciting new opera, For You, on 11 November. For You is a thrilling opera sung in English and has been co-written by Ian McEwan, who will also be present at the pre-show talk. Sherman continue to welcome the best theatre companies from throughout the UK including the highly imaginative Hoipolloi with their strangely fantastical adaptation of The Doubtful Guest from 5 – 8 November. Shared Experience also present Mine, a visually stunning new play about a couple who decide to adopt, on 30 October – 1 November. Zena Edwards performs in a one-woman show, Security, on 15 - 16 October, which fuses performance poetry, theatre and song set amongst the clash of cultures and generations in London. Kindertransport, a moving play about the experiences of those who escaped the Holocaust, is on from 7- 8 October, and The Diary of Anne Frank is on from 11 – 15 November. Contemporary dance also plays a big part in the Sherman Autumn season with Welsh performance artist Eddie Ladd presenting Scarface* on 10 October, which relocates the 1983 hit film to West Wales with Eddie Ladd stepping in for the film’s lead, Al Pacino. Rising star of the dance world Hofesh Shechter, whose work was recently seen on hit TV show Skins, presents his new work at Sherman on 23 October.
