![]() The Doubtful Guest, produced by award-winning theatre company Hoipolloi, is about a fantastical creature who arrives at a seemingly normal household to disrupt their ordered lives, and is inspired by cult writer and cartoonist Edward Gorey’s original book. Hoipolloi’s Artistic Director and writer and director of the show, Shon Dale-Jones comments: “We feel privileged to be the first theatre company in the UK to stage the book, which is such powerful and fantastic source material. I’m delighted that new audiences will get to experience this wickedly wonderful story.” The Doubtful Guest is the first time Hoipolloi have visited Cardiff. Hoipolloi have previously enjoyed success with Floating, which is about Anglesey floating away from mainland Wales, and stars the now famous Hoipolloi Welsh character Hugh Hughes. Floating won the Total Theatre Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2006. The original story was written by the late Edward Gorey, who was famous for his dark, sneakily sinister books and intricately drawn accompanying illustrations that appealed to both children and adults alike. Gorey influenced a generation of creative iconoclasts including as award-winning director Tim Burton. The Doubtful Guest is on at Sherman on 5 – 8 November 7.30pm. Tickets are £14 (Reductions £12, Under 19s £8) and can be booked from the Box Office on 029 2064 6900 or online at www.shermancymru.co.uk |
