Cutting Edge Singers needed for Welsh National Youth Opera

With former members signing album deals with Only Men Aloud! and others heading off to star in West End shows such as Les Miserables Welsh National Youth Opera (WNYO) is an exceptional platform for young singers. Now the group is looking to recruit for their production next year of ‘Sweeney Todd’ which promises to be a cutting edge performance!

WNYO has been established for over 10 years and has a renowned reputation for excellence; they are not just about opera but also perform musicals and specially commissioned works. In 2009 the Company is going to stage a chilling production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd and is looking to recruit young people aged between 16 and 25 for this production opening in July 2009 at the Weston Studio, Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay.

Auditions for talented young singers to join this highly regarded company will be held across Wales in January 2009. The successful candidates will then work in rehearsal with many experienced theatre professionals on the production team including new Music Director Fergus Sheil who is Music Director for Lyric Opera Productions, Dublin and Director Pete Harris who has directed work for Glyndebourne Youth Opera, the Young Vic and National Youth Theatre amongst other companies.

“I was incredibly honoured to be asked to work with Welsh National Youth Opera this year as I know the company is so highly regarded and deservedly so. Working with the group on this production of Sweeney Todd is set to be a fantastic experience which I am truly looking forward to.” Explains Fergus Sheil WNYO’s Music Director. “WNYO gives young people a fantastic insight into the world of a professional company and offers the group an opportunity to learn from experts which is a priceless experience.”
