Pavilion Dance Fest Contemporary Dance – Ballroom – Hip Hop, Breakdance

Put on your dancing shoes or sit back and watch a weekend of dance when the Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl will be playing host to a weekend of dance performances, workshops and a photographic dance exhibition to suit all tastes and ages from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th January.  Featuring different dance forms each day, our Pavilion Dance Fest begins with contemporary dance, followed by a ballroom day and ending with hip hop and breakdance on the Sunday.
Friday 23rd January - Contemporary Dance Day …..
Book your seats for our Contemporary Dance Night at 7.30pm and enjoy a dynamic and unique performance of live music and dance featuring the world premiere of a new dance piece from an original score commissioned and composed by Richard Elfyn Jones and choreographed by independent dance artist Paul Davies. The evening will also include special guest appearances from dance graduates on the threshold of their professional careers. After the performance, you will have the unique opportunity to Meet the Choreographer & Composer and find out about the workings and thinking behind their approach to new music and dance.
Saturday 24th January - Ballroom Day
featuring Strictly Come Dancing 2005 stars, Andrew Cuerden & Hanna Haarala……
A must for all ballroom fans….and BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing!  Take part in our Intermediate Latin American Dance Workshop at 12pm when international Latin American dancers and teachers – Andrew & Hanna will take you to the heart of Latin dancing where the beat is strong and the emotions even stronger!  At 2.30pm, dance across our magnificent ballroom dance floor during our Tea Dance with the Jeff Guppy Trio.  Enjoy an evening of glamour, live music and Latin moves in our Black & White Ball at 7.30pm with an exhibition by Andrew Cuerden and Hanna Haarala, live music by the Jeff Guppy Trio and taped music.
Sunday 25th January - Hip Hop Breakdance Day …..
Have fun, learn new moves, get creative and develop your choreographic skills with Harnisch-Lacey Dance Theatre’s Breakdance, Hip Hop and Contemp’Breaking workshops starting at 9am.  In the evening Harnisch–Lacey Dance Theatre present Exit and Out at 7pm consisting of two dance works fusing contemporary dance, street dance, popping and breakdance! The performance introduces BBoy Flypz (Welsh BBoy Champion 2007 & 2008) as part of the all male cast accompanied by original music by Katherine Summers, vocal percussionist Imran Kaiza Khan and musician/vocalist Anne Gilpin.
Photographic Dance Exhibition….
View innovative dance photography by Ray Campbell-Moore of Diversions Dance during our exhibition to be shown throughout the Dance Fest weekend in the Stage Door.  Beginning with our launch at 6.30pm on Friday 23rd January, the exhibition will be open on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th January from 10am – 6pm each day with free admission.
