New Stage Adaptation of Great Expectations at Sherman

New Stage Adaptation of Great Expectations at Sherman A new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations takes to the stage at Sherman, Cardiff this March.

Directed by Time Baker, Clwyd Theatr Cymru’s Artistic Director, Great Expectations is produced in collaboration with composer Dyfan Jones to produce a musical version of the novel. The production features an outstanding cast including Steven Meo, star of Grown Ups (BBC3) and High Hopes, as Pip, West End star (Mamma Mia) Vivian Parry as Miss Havisham and Steffan Rhodri, best known as “Dave Coaches” in hit series Gavin and Stacey, who plays Joe, Pip’s trusted friend.

Great Expectations tells the story of Pip's journey as he encounters the eccentric Miss Havisham and falls in love with her beautiful step-daughter Estella. His fortunes change forever when, through an unknown benefactor, Pip is taken away to London to begin a new life as a gentleman. Director Tim Baker comments:

‘Great Expectations is the perfect play for these recession hit-times. In it Dickens cleverly weaves together the two great, eternal storylines – rags to riches and unrequited love. Through the central character of Pip we all realise the dream that the knock on the door brings, bearing fortune and a future. However, at the same time we empathise with his misfortune in falling in love with a woman who cannot be loved’.

Great Expectations will be on at Sherman on Thursday 19 February – Saturday 21 March 7:45pm. Tickets are £14 and £12 Under 19s £8 (VAT Reductions apply) and are available from the Sherman Box Office on 029 2064 6900 or online at
