![]() Direct from the West End, the show is a hybrid of the songs and words of Noël Coward, his original one-act play and the screenplay of the classic 1945 film. Ten actor-musicians recreate the famous Milford Junction tea room transporting the audience back to a bygone era of romance. Strangers Alec and Laura begin an unconsummated but passionate affair following a chance meeting at a train station. Both married to another, they struggle with their feelings and morals in the face of a disapproving society. The clever staging allows the cast to walk from the set straight into the cinema action immediately capturing the audience’s attention. Co-producer Kneehigh Theatre Company’s use of this multi media creates a visual and vibrant world of steam trains and post-war Britain. Having gained a reputation for producing vigorous and popular theatre for audiences, Kneehigh Theatre often create without a script and evolve their stories through imagination and improvisation There's a refreshing youthfulness and a lack of pretension about Director Emma Rice, the woman who has masterminded the development of Kneehigh Theatre from its Cornish roots to a much wider stage.
