CPR On Tour Kabuki workshop

HISAGOKAI - Kabuki Theatre
A performance, lecture-demonstration and workshop in Aberystwyth, as part of the Japan 2001 Festival UK, 29-30 September 2001

The Aberystwyth based Centre for Performance Research (CPR) is presenting a performance, lecture-demonstration and work shop by the Japanese company HISAGOKAI on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 September 2001. The visit to Aberystwyth begins CPR's second season of workshops 'CPR On Tour' which will present a different performance workshop each month in a different part of Wales. Hisagokai's visit also forms part of the UK-wide Japan festival 2001.

The performances will include traditional Kabuki pieces as well as a newly created work combining the elegant dance form ji-uta mai, and text from
Shakespeare's Macbeth exploring the character of Lady Macbeth. The workshop element will teach the basic body postures, gestures, and fan movements of Japanese classical dance as well as the movements of the short 'naga-uta' piece 'Akeno Kane' (the Dawn Bell).

HISAGOKAI, was founded by Dance Director FUJIMA Yuko in order to promote cultural exchange and to introduce Japanese classical dance to people from
all over the world. Hisagokai members are all professional musicians and dancers from the world of Japanese KABUKI and NIHON BUYOH (classical
Japanese dance). The group has performed in England and Italy on several occasions during the last ten years, offering workshops to varied groups and organizations as well as doing frequent presentations in Tokyo as part of an
outreach program to the foreign community in Japan.

The Hisagokai lecture-demonstration, performance and workshop costs £25 (£15 concessions) and places can be booked through CPR by telephoning (01970) 622133 or emailing cprwww@aber.ac.uk or visiting the CPR web site
