POVEY PLAY / POVEY’N PARABLU Prolific Welsh playwright, Meic Povey, will discuss the people and places that have influenced his work during the National Eisteddfod in Bala next week.

Over a 30 year period the Cardiff-based dramatist, but with family roots firmly embedded in the rocky outcrops of Snowdonia, has penned hundreds of plays, film scripts and television dramas.

“Meic Povey is by far the most productive playwright of his generation,” said Mai Jones from Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru – the Welsh National Theatre Company.
“He’s also the most popular regularly engaging with an ever increasing and loyal following,” she added.

Meic Povey will hold an audience in the small theatre on the Eisteddfod field on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at 2.30pm and will be especially speaking about his latest play, “Tyner yw’r Lleuad Heno”, which will be touring Wales’ main theatre venues in the Autumn.

“This will be Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s second production of a play by Meic Povey,” added Mai Jones.
“True to form this play again will enthral and deliver with dramatic effect,” she added.

Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s Artistic Director will also hold an audience in the MaesD Pavilion on the Eisteddfod Maes on Monday, Auguast 3, 2009 at 2.30pm.. Cefin Roberts will be speaking of the company’s plans to develop its outreach provision for school and college drama students as well Welsh learners.

“Our outreach arrangements are an integral part of our service,” said Mai Jones.
“And it’s something we’re particularly anxious to cultivate and expand,” she added.

Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru is supported by the Arts Council for Wales.

Bydd y dramodydd cynhyrchiol, Meic Povey, yn trafod y bobl a’r pethau fu’n ddylanwad ar ei waith ar faes yr Eisteddfod Genedlaetho yn Y Bala’r wythnos nesaf.

Dros gyfnod o 30 mlynedd mae’r dramodydd o Gaerdydd, ond sydd a’i wreiddiau’n ddwfn y naear Eryri, wedi ysgrifennu cannoedd o ddramâu a sgriptiau ar gyfer ffilmiau a theledu.

“Meic Povey yw dramodydd mwyaf cynhyrchiol ei genhedlaeth o ddigon,” meddai Mai Jones o Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru .
“Fo hefyd yw’r mwyaf poblogaidd gan ddenu cynulleidfaoedd ffyddlon a chynyddol gyson,” ychwanegodd.

Bydd Meic Povey yn trafod ei waith yn Theatr Fach y Maes brynhawn dydd Iau, Awst 6, 2009, at 2.30 o’r gloch gan ganolbwyntio’n benodol ar ei ddrama ddiweddaraf. Bydd “Tyner yw’r Lleuad Heno” yn teithio o gwmpas prif theatrau Cymru’n y Hydref.

“Hon fydd yr ail drama gan Meic Povey i’w chynhyrchu Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru,” ychwanegodd Mai Jones.
“Fel arfer bydd y ddrama hon eto’n diddori a tharo deuddeg mewn modd dramatig,” meddai.

Bydd Cyfarwyddwr Artistig Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru hefyd yn difyrru cynulleidfa MaesD ar Faes yr Eisteddfod brynhawn dydd Llun, Awst 3, 2009, am 2.30 o’r gloch. Bydd Cefin Roberts yn trafod cynlluniau ymestyn y cwmni yn arbennig ar gyfer anghenion myfyrwyr drama ein hysgolion a cholegau yn ogystal ag ar gyfer dysgwyr y Gymraeg.

“Mae ein trefniadau ymestyn yn rhan greiddiol o’n gwasanaeth,” meddai Mai Jones.
“Ac yn rhywbeth rydym tu hwnt o awyddus ei feithrin a’i ddatblygu,” meddai.
