From September to December, 2001 Hijinx Theatre will be touring their new production of Ill Met By Moonlight, written by Charles Way. The tour opens on Tuesday 25th September at Whitchurch High School, Cardiff then proceeds to visit 48 other art centres and community venues throughout Wales and England, including three nights at the Sherman Theatre. ( Thursday, 27th - Saturday, 29th September.) This beautiful, lyrical and imaginative play was first toured by Hijinx in 1994 and received outstanding audience and critical response. Ill Met By Moonlight was also part of a portfolio of work that won Hijinx the BBC Wales Theatre Company of the Year Award in 1994. With a cast of four, this new production reunites the undoubted talents of Charles Way and acclaimed jazz musician, Paula Gardiner, working alongside renowned director Kevin Lewis, with an inspiring design from Andrew Harrison. Ill Met By Moonlight is set on the border of Wales and England at a time, not so long ago, when country people believed in fairie-folk. A descendant of Puck still roams the countryside causing mayhem and madness wherever he goes. By his shape-changing interference he attempts to thwart the course of true love between two country folk. The results of his malicious meddling are often hilarious and sometimes tragic. This is a rich and layered play. Lurking underneath the comedy and humour of the central story, is a darker, malevolent tale. Will he be triumphant or will true love shine through? "The play explores cultural borders, national borders, the border between reality and fantasy, between the old and the new and between life and death." Charles Way With the usual trademarks of a fascinating story, uplifting music and a stunning set, Ill Met By Moonlight promises to be another great night out that everyone has come to expect from Hijinx.
