Discover Dance at The Riverfront this September...

Discover Dance at The Riverfront this September... The time to Discover Dance is just around the corner! This exciting, week long event will take place at The Riverfront, both inside and outside of the building, from Tuesday 15 – Saturday 19 September 2009. This is your chance to experience dance in various unique settings in Newport!

Discover Dance is a showcase of local and international dance and incorporates Osez! Outdoor Dance Project from Canada which came to The Riverfront for the first time last year; Wardrobe Diaries is presented by Citrus Arts and is a rich mix of acrobatic skills, dance, honest imagination and quirky humour and finally local company Independent Ballet Wales present How Green Was My Valley.

Osez! is a remarkably successful FREE outdoor dance project which came to The Riverfront last year for the first ever UK version of the event. This year, five Canadian dancers and seven from Wales will work with choreographers Louise Bedard from Quebec and Sean Tuan John from Wales to create a new dance each day of the week. The music will be live, too.

Performed on the quayside around The Riverfront, each day will be different. Each performance will also draw on the previous day’s experience, so you can follow the threads of the piece if you come on separate days. The dancers performed Osez! in both Quebec City and Gaspe this Summer and are very excited about performing in Newport. “It really was one an amazing experience. I can now safely say that I am thoroughly looking forward to Newport in September”. Said Welsh dancer Suzanne Firth.

Come along to see Newport in a new light, and to enjoy the fruits of this international exchange. The café and bar will be open. Meet up in the foyer of The Riverfront and the dancers will lead you outside on Tuesday 15 – Saturday 19 September 2009 from 6.30pm.

In the event of heavy rain, a performance will take place inside the building.

Wardrobe Diaries is by Citrus Arts will take place on Wednesday 16, Thursday 17, Friday 18 September at 7.30pm and costs £8 with reductions available and How Green Was My Valley by Independent Ballet Wales on Saturday at 7.30pm and tickets are £13 with reductions available. There will also be a dance exhibition throughout the building.
