“… a roller-coaster ride - a riveting piece of theatre from director Steve Davis and his team. The phrase “cutting-edge” is much overused today, and you’d hardly expect it to be used in a play for schoolkids, but ifever there was an apt description it is for a short sharp piece of theatre currently being presented around South Wales by Rhondda-based Spectacle Theatre. David Adams, The Western Mail The award winning Valleys based Spectacle Theatre will begin touring their Autumn project ‘BYSTANDERS’ to Secondary Schools and Venues throughout Wales from 5th October until 27th November 2009. ‘BYSTANDERS’ has an exciting international dimension. It was originally written in Friesan by Jan Veldman and performed by Tryater Theatre company. The work, translated into English and Welsh by Spectacle, successfully toured to Welsh audiences in 2001, proved a perfect example of how work originally created for a small audience number in one language can be culturally transposed for a much wider audience. Directed by Carys Parry, and with a cast of Julia Wyndham, Owain Ford and Julian Richards, ‘BYSTANDERS’ is an active theatre programme for young people about decision making and personal safety. A special guest performance will also be held at the Temple of Peace, Cardiff during early November. This will be followed by a live performance from Rhondda based band ‘My Ceramic Rabbit’, who also generously provided the music for the project.
