Unexplained events, doors that close themselves with a bang and mysterious noises that surround you can only mean that the spooky ghost story The Woman in Black has returned to the New Theatre stage for a week of chilling drama from Monday 14 – Saturday 19 June.Audiences should prepare for a night of hair raising thrills as middle-aged lawyer Arthur Kipps tells his story. Obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family, he engages a sceptical young actor to re-enact his experiences at Eel Marsh House. Together they turn the recital into a dramatic performance, the actor taking on the persona of Mr Kipps and the lawyer playing the various characters in the tale. Taking the role of Arthur Kipps is Robert Demeger with Peter Bramhill as the young actor. Both actors have previously played the role in the West End. Robert’s theatre work includes Hamlet at the Barbican and numerous seasons with the RSC. Peter trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and recently appeared in King Lear at the Young Vic. The clever use of props, special sound and lighting effects conjures up a Victorian world of sighing winds and eerie marshes. Combining lighting projections, clouds of dry ice, ear-splitting screams and the atmospheric power of the theatre, the production offers a real thrill of horror and a truly spine-chilling experience. This gripping stage adaptation of Susan Hill’s novel has been enjoyed by, (and terrified!) over 7 million people and is currently celebrating its 21st year in the West End.
