Want to be part of something epic? Welsh Applicants invited for National Youth Theatre auditions The prestigious National Youth Theatre is now recruiting for their 2011/2012 company, offering young people nationwide the chance to follow in the footsteps of Daniel Craig, Matt Smith, Orlando Bloom, Matt Lucas, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Catherine Tate, David Walliams, Sir Derek Jacobi, Chiwetel Ejiofor OBE, Dame Helen Mirren and Sir Ben Kingsley ‡ all of whom once tread the boards with the NYT. But it‡s not just stars-in-the-making the NYT is on the look out for ‡ they‡re also on the hunt for behind-the-scenes technical talent. Alongside acting, applications are invited for costume, lighting and sound, scenery and prop making, and stage management courses. Singer and former NYT alumnus Sophie Ellis-Bextor, said: "I absolutely loved being a part of The National Youth Theatre. It was so much fun and really boosted my confidence. As an adult, I've carried on going to see the wonderful plays they put on each year and am always so impressed with their work. It's a fantastic organisation, with massive benefits for anyone that gets involved." Megan Llyn, 17, from Gwynedd in North Wales is already a member of the NYT. ‡I auditioned because I want to be an actor when I‡m older and my audition was very interesting and a lot of fun,‡ said Megan. ‡I think being a member of the NYT will help me in the future and is an excellent thing to put on your CV,‡ she added. Paul Roseby Artistic Director of National Youth Theatre of Great Britain added: ‡We‡re looking to illuminate the raw talent of young people from across the UK with spark, passion, focus, enthusiasm, commitment and generosity. At the NYT we have over 50 year‡s experience of investing in the training and personal development of young British talent and showcasing it on exciting platforms all over the UK and around the world.‡ The NYT has an exceptional reputation for discovering epic talent and producing exciting, innovative theatrical productions in leading venues across the UK and as far afield as China. Recent productions include Relish at the Tramshed in London ‡ the delicious story of a true life Victorian chef who captured the imaginations and taste buds of the British public long before Delia, Jamie and Gordon. Another highlight was Stars over Kabul in Glasgow ‡ a tale of modern love and loss set against ‡Afghan Star‡ ‡ an X-factor style TV talent show that swept the war-torn nation. In the summer, the NYT travelled to Shanghai to perform Living the Dream ‡ a fresh take on A Midsummer Night‡s Dream - at the World Expo 2010. The NYT offers young people the chance to work together in a professional environment, giving them artistic and technical skills as well as the invaluable experience of working as part of a dedicated team. The closing date for applications is 7th January 2011, with auditions and interviews taking place at venues across the country in January and February 2011. Auditions and Interviews for Wales will take place in Cardiff at the Chapter Arts Centre, CF5 1QE. Everyone who applies will be offered the chance to try out, regardless of previous experience. Applications are open to anyone who will be aged 14 to 21 on 1st August 2011. Members of the company who have completed the initial course are eligible to audition each year for productions until they reach the upper age limit.
