After 38 years of providing quality drama, touching hearts and minds of young and old alike, next Tuesday sees Theatr Powys start what will be their last ever Community Tour at the Drama Centre, Llandrindod. Thanks to a crippling funding decision made by the Arts Council of Wales this will be your last chance to watch the Company perform. This is grass roots theatre at its best and theatre where you live. All the venues and dates can be found on their web-site: http://www.theatrpowys.co.uk/community-touring.aspx Your support, at any of the venues, will be well rewarded, welcomed, appreciated and will send a message to those that make funding decisions on our behalf that WE VALUE THE ARTS. SAVE THEATR POWYS AND MID WALES YOUTH THEATRE is an e-petition lodged with the Welsh Assembly Government. http://www.assemblywales.org/gethome/e-petitions/epetition-list-of-signatories.htm?showfrm=1#SignPetition Signing this petition might have more of an effect than you think – a 1,200 strong e-petition from Gwent Theatre (and Gwent Young People’s Theatre) has received assurance of support from Welsh Assembly Government Members – and the assurance that the Communities and Culture Committee, who are holding an inquiry into access to the arts for children and young people, will be made aware of the petitions submitted against the ACW cuts. Their petition has been backed by the Gwent AM’s and has caused disquiet among some Arts Council of Wales members regarding the cuts. The WAG Community and Culture Committee is expected to publish its findings on the accessibility of arts and cultural activities in Wales on January 20, 2011 – It is possible that the ACW funding cuts may fall foul of these findings. THE ARTS COUNCIL ARE RATTLED - WE NEED TO HAVE A PETITION WORTHY OF CONSIDERATION BY THE ASSEMBLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Please vote and get everyone you know to vote. |
