TORCH THEATRE TO REVEAL BACKSTAGE SECRETS

TORCH THEATRE TO REVEAL BACKSTAGE SECRETS If you’ve ever wondered how ‘The Green Room’ got its name in a theatre, or why actors aren’t allowed to whistle on stage then you will have an opportunity to find out on Saturday (5 February) when the staff of the Torch Theatre will reveal their backstage secrets in their first Open Day.

Four in depth backstage tours will be the main focus of the day where the curious will meet the Theatre’s Artistic Director, visit the dressing rooms and their state of the art sound studio where things such as recording of special effects take place, and then meet the technical crew on the main stage and learn about ‘prompt corner’, stage lighting and how a show is put together from design to performance.

The public areas of the Torch will be buzzing with activity while the international cast and crew of Nofit State Circus are likely to inhabit any available space to rehearse a routine, try out a new piece of equipment, work on their costume designs or just enjoy your company!

Their up and coming show ‘Mundo Parelelo’, is a co-production between the Torch Theatre and a stunning finale to the launch year of the National Theatre of Wales who commissioned the work. Visitors will witness the very early stages of their devising and rehearsal period and the lively members of Nofit State Circus are keen to talk to anyone interested in what’s going on, what they are up to and how they do it!

The National Theatre of Wales’ Team Co-Ordinator, Devinda de Silva and Creative Associate Catherine Paskell will also be there to show people what their Assembly & TEAM programmes have been up to in local communities around Wales for the National Theatre of Wales marathon 11 productions since its launch last year and how you can get involved in this and future productions!

Radio Pembrokeshire will be broadcasting live from the theatre between 10.00am and 12.00 noon and a live band will be playing intermittently during the afternoon.

Café Torch will of course be open throughout the day to keep you refreshed, serving lunches, teas and their scrumptious home made cakes.

There is no charge to attend the Open Day which starts at 10.00am and runs until 4.00pm. Guided tours take place at 11.00am, 12.00pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm. Contact the Box Office on 01646 695267 to reserve your place on these.
