dinnerladies at the New Theatre, CardiffFollowing their success in 2009, Victoria Wood’s dinnerladies return to the New Theatre stage in a brand new show second helpings. It’s back to the canteen of HWD Electronics from Tuesday 1 to Saturday 5 March for some of Victoria Wood’s funniest writing starring Andrew Dunn and Sue Devaney from the original television series. Recreating their roles as Tony and Jane, Andrew and Sue are joined on stage by all the favourite characters including Bren, Dolly, Jean, and Petula, Bren’s truly dreadful mother for even more hilarious antics and twelve rounds of toast. Andrew Dunn and Sue Devaney have both walked the cobbles of Coronation Street, Sue playing Kevin Webster’s tear-away sister and Andrew more recently as Janice Battersby’s love interest. dinnerladies initially ran for two series, from 1998 to 2000 and was voted in the top ten all-time favourite sitcoms list, a remarkable feat for a programme where only 16 episodes were ever made. Both Victoria Wood and director David Graham were concerned that the touring cast and production should bear a very close resemblance to the well-loved TV series and this is exactly what has happened. The talented cast features many of the actors from the successful 2009 stage show, re-creating some of the best loved sitcom characters and delivering some of the funniest lines on television. dinnerladies is at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Tuesday 1 – Saturday 5 March.
