Tuesday 29 & Wednesday 30 March, 7.30pm/yhEmily Bronte’s gothic tale of tortured love, Wuthering Heights, tours to Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan, on 29th and 30th March at 7.30pm in a new production from Aberystwyth Arts Centre. Long before ‘Twilight’ stirred the emotions, Wuthering Heights embodied the eternal pull between good and evil, dark and light, and heaven and hell. This exhilarating and vibrant adaptation of the literary classic brings to life the all-encompassing love between the silent, brooding Heathcliff and the emotionally unstable Catherine. Their destructive relationship is one of the most enduring love stories of English literature. In many ways the love triangle of Heathcliff, Cathy and Edgar is the 19th century equivalent of ‘Twilight’s’ Edward, Bella and Jacob – Emily Bronte was 200 years ahead of Stephenie Meyer! First broadcast as a Radio 4 drama for Woman’s Hour in 2003 (“Unmissable” Radio Times), the script, by writer Lucy Gough, has now been adapted for the stage. Under the directorship of Mark Babych (formerly artistic director of the Octagon Theatre, Bolton) the production promises to remain true to the original story and transport audiences to the wild and windy moors for an emotional night of theatre. Tickets for the performances at Mwldan are £14 (£12) and are on sale now – call (01239) 621200 or book online at www.mwldan.co.uk. |
