Recently made popular again by the BBC’s adaptation, Cardiff audiences can now get even closer to experiencing life in the genteel market town of Cranford when a new stage production comes to the New Theatre from Tuesday 19 – Saturday 23 April.This charming period drama is a witty and poignant portrayal of early Victorian life full of irresistible characters and their small adventures and mishaps. As the railway threatens to expand and ruin the picturesque town of Cranford it is up to the locals to prevent their simple way of life changing forever. With its detailed sets, colorful costumes and an abundance of bonnets this nostalgic production will make audiences feel they have stepped back in time as it offers the perfect anecdote to the humdrum of modern life. A talented cast includes Kathryn Dimery who trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Kathryn has appeared at the New Theatre numerous times in acclaimed Wales Theatre Company productions that include Under Milk Wood, A Christmas Carol and Hamlet. Kathryn is joined by Judy Buxton (On the Up), Ben Roberts (The Bill), Jake Hendriks (Hollyoaks), Karen Ford (Grange Hill) and Hildegard Neil. This much loved novel by 19th century English writer Elizabeth Gaskell is now enjoying stage success following the television adaption that was recently shown on the BBC. Cranford was originally serialized in Charles Dickens’ journal, Household Words in 1851. This heart-warming 160 year old story has stood the test of time and is as popular as ever. Cranford is at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Tuesday 19 – Saturday 23 April.
