One of the most critically acclaimed plays of the 21st Century is coming to Aberystwyth this April. |
Louche Theatre will be presenting ‘ Be My Baby’ by Amanda Whittington at the Morlan Centre, Queens Road from April 28 to 30 at 7.30pm. Set in 1964, the play follows the fortunes of Mary Adams aged 19, unmarried and 7 months pregnant. Packed off to a Mother & Baby home by a mother intent on keeping up appearances, she and the other girls in the home have to cope with the shame of their pregnancy and the dawning realisation they must give up their babies for adoption. However, the girl’s youthful sense of fun keeps breaking through as they sing and dance along to the fantastic girl-group songs of the period. These 3 minute pop dramas perfectly capture the passionate innocence of the plays characters…it’s a story of hope, friendship and even in the face of adversity – fun ! The Aberystwyth performances will be followed by a question and answer session. The author, Amanda Whittington, is hoping to attend one of these Following the plays Aberystwyth run it will be transferring to the Greenside Theatre, Edinburgh in August as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
