An all star cast star in John A Penzotti’s moving comedy Five Blue Haired Ladies Sitting on a Green Park Bench at New Theatre, Cardiff from Tuesday 21 – Saturday 25 June. Five wonderful sixty something women reminisce over fond and sometimes painful memories, keen observations and enjoy a good old belly laugh along the way.Anna, Eva, Rose, Gladys and La La have two things in common: a park bench in central New York and a life well-lived. Bound by each other’s strengths, wisdom and witticisms, each one unwittingly prepares for the day they leave the park bench, perhaps for the last time. As the journey unfolds, it’s those bonds that ensure, at least for these fearless five, that the grim reaper is not so grim after all. The well known cast is led by Anne Charleston best known for her role as Madge in Neighbours, she is joined by Lorraine Chase (Emmerdale), Shirley Anne Field, alongside Chris Beeney (Upstairs Downstairs), Frazer Hines (Emmerdale), Tom Owen (Last Of The Summer Wine) and Award winning recording artist and actress Anita Harris. Five Blue Haired Ladies Sitting On A Green Park Bench began on the stage of The Harold Cluman Theatre in New York and originally it was a twelve minute one act play. Spurred on by the laughter, tears and accolades, John A Penzotti was not only encouraged to realising his characters in full. As a two act play it found its way to the Theatre Royal Lincoln for the world premiere and following its success as a touring production it visits Cardiff on its second UK tour.
