Welsh actor Matthew Rhys will be paying a special visit this June to his home town of Cardiff for an exclusive fundraising event for Sherman Cymru’s Redevelopment Campaign. To help raise funds for Sherman Cymru’s redevelopment of the theatre, theatre supporters and Matthew Rhys fans will be able to attend an exclusive ‘Evening with Matthew’ held at one of Cardiff’s newest, chicest bars – the new Kuku Club, Park Plaza Hotel on Thursday 16 June at 6pm. As one of Wales’s biggest stars, Matthew is known for his performances in Very Annie Mary, The Edge of Love and more recently US hit series Brothers & Sisters and Welsh film, Patagonia. Matthew Rhys fans will be able to spend an intimate evening with the Hollywood Star and hear about his life as a Welsh film and television actor on both sides of the Atlantic. Supported and held at the Kuku Club at the Park Plaza Hotel, An Evening with Matthew Rhys will be hosted by Welsh TV presenter, Angharad Mair, who will discover Matthew’s past, present and future. Matthew, who is Patron of Sherman Cymru’s Redevelopment Campaign said, “My first memory and experience of going to the theatre was at the Sherman theatre, so the place means a lot to me.” Sherman Cymru’s theatre building is currently closed to the public while it undergoes its £6 million redevelopment, which is due to be completed in early 2012. Sherman Cymru has raised over £930,000 to date but still needs to raise £400,000. Matthew continues, “The undertaking of raising this money is indeed very important as I hope the theatre will excite, educate and inspire many more generations in years to come as it did me all those years ago.” Emma Goad, Head of Development at Sherman Cymru said: “We are really pleased that Matthew is able to take time out of his busy schedule to help support Sherman Cymru’s Redevelopment Campaign. This is a great way for people to support the campaign and have a great, memorable night out. As an exclusive, special event there is limited availability, so please book early to avoid disappointment.” This is a fundraising event and we would suggest a minimum donation of £40 to attend. An Evening with Matthew Rhys will be held at the Kuku Club, Park Plaza, Cardiff on Thursday 16 June. Doors open at 5.30pm, starts at 6pm and will finish at 8pm. To ensure you get to enjoy An Evening with Matthew Rhys, please contact Emma Goad on 029 20 646975 or Suzanne Carter on 029 20 646970. Monday – Friday 10am – 3pm.
