Mr Stink, the musical comedy based on the hilarious children’s novel written by David Walliams comes to the New Theatre as part of its World Premiere UK tour from Wednesday 20 - Sunday 24 July. Forming part of the Cardiff Festival, the award-winning novel is live on stage for the first time and is breaking new ground by being the first ever interactive Scratch ‘n’ Sniff musical production! Each audience member will be given a free scratch ‘n’ sniff booklet which will bring Mr Stink pongingly to life. The story follows Chloe, who doesn’t like school very much. She isn’t as cool as the other kids, no iPhone, no DS and no friends. Then, she meets Mr Stink – the local tramp. Yes, he smells a bit but he’s the only person who has ever been nice to her, including her mother who wants to be local MP and is trying to rid the streets of its homeless. About to lose her only friend, Chloe finds Mr Stink a secret hiding place…but there might be more to him than meets the nose… David Walliams, comedian, writer and actor, first turned his hand to writing for children in 2008 with The Boy in the Dress. Mr Stink followed a year later and his latest novel Billionaire Boy was published in 2010. David has sold over 250,000 books to date. Best known for his partnership with Matt Lucas on the TV sketch show Little Britain, the pair returned to our screens in Come Fly With Me. Walliams is no stranger to the theatre; in 2008 he performed opposite Michael Gambon in Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land. He is also known for his charity sporting achievements; swimming the English Channel for Sport Relief in 2006 and later this year he will swim the river Thames for the same charity. Mr Stink is illustrated by one of Britain’s best-loved and most successful illustrators, Quentin Blake. He has illustrated over three hundred books, including most famously for Roald Dahl. He has won many awards and was made a CBE in 2005. The production is adapted and produced by Matthew White who recently directed the West End productions of Sweet Charity and Little Shop of Horrors. The music is composed by Cardiff born Matt Brind, Musical Director of Legally Blonde and Conductor and Orchestrator for John Barrowman’s latest album. Matt has also written orchestrations for Britain’s Got Talent and Any Dream Will Do and is currently developing a new musical set in the Second World War. Featuring enchanting puppetry, Mr Stink is suitable for children ages 7 and above. Mr Stink is at the New Theatre from Wednesday 20 – Sunday 24 July.
