Theatr Mwldan in partnership with The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales present - Illyria: The Pirates of Penzance |
OUTDOOR THEATRE AT:WELSH WILDLIFE CENTRE | CANOLFAN NATUR CYMRU CILGERRANThe ever-popular Illyria - the UK’s top touring outdoor theatre company - are celebrating their 20th birthday this year, and to celebrate they are achieving yet another daring first for the UK open-air touring theatre circuit: Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular comic opera The Pirates of Penzance! Experience a glorious evening of music and fun in the company of pirates in the beautiful setting of the Welsh Wildlife Centre, Cilgerran on Sunday 24 July at 7.30pm. Frederick, apprenticed to the Pirates since a child, reaches the age of 21 and announces to the Pirate King that it is his duty to leave them, seek his fortune in a more wholesome way, and to kill them all if he should ever see them again. Reaching land, Frederick encounters Major Stanley’s beautiful daughters, and falls in love with Mabel, the most beautiful. But then he learns that as he was born on 29th February, he is contracted to the Pirate King until his 21st BIRTHDAY, not his 21st year...The show is packed with laughter, romance and a galleon-full of memorable songs including To be a Pirate King!, Modern Major General and A Policeman’s Lot is Not a Happy One. Illyria have been bringing top quality entertainment to UK audiences for well over a decade, and have attracted numerous five-star reviews in the national press. We can’t wait to see what special magic they bring to this Gilbert and Sullivan classic, faithfully performed by a slightly reduced (in number only!) cast of highly talented actor-musicians and accompanied by a Musical Director. Tickets for the show are £15 each (£13 concessions, £11 children) Book now via www.mwldan.co.uk or by calling Theatr Mwldan’s Box Office on 01239 621200.
