NEWPORT GETS SET TO MAKE A BIG SPLASH ALL OVER THE CITY ONCE AGAIN! |
The Big Splash is returning and preparing to make waves in Newport this October. This year’s festivities will take place around The Riverfront area of the city and in various other city centre locations as part of Newport Festival 2011. The Big Splash 2011 will on the weekend of Friday 7 October until Sunday 9 October. A celebratory weekend of fire, spectacle and entertainment following on from the success of 2010 will see Newport being taken over with a host of indoor and outdoor events on both sides of the River Usk. Be ready for large scale spectacular stunts, a free fireworks extravaganza, street theatre performances, a gigantic puppet show, a climbing wall, ‘Waterwalker’ balls, the action packed US sport – Roller Derby, live music throughout the weekend including sets from The Elasticated Waste band, The Cherry Beats, Wonderbrass, Tattsyrup, The Mavron String Quartet and much, much more. Also returning to this year’s celebration is Danter’s Fairground – an opportunity to enjoy good old fashioned family fun right on the riverbank! The Big Splash is a weekend of fun for all ages and the banks of the River Usk will be brimming with buzzing acts and happy people! Most events are FREE, but there are some paid events! So it’s time to save the date and make sure you bring the whole family into Newport to see this spectacular event. If you have little ones then don’t miss BIG BOX OF BANANAS on Sunday 9 October, which is taking place at The Big Splash in the theatre at The Riverfront. BIG BOX OF BANANAS is a show brought to the audience by Andy Day, Cbeebies presenter and his comedy partner Mike James. Aimed at 3-11 year olds this production allows children to go on a colourful journey and provides hilarious slap stick humour not just for the kiddies, but for all the family!
