Mid Wales Opera perform Madam Butterfly

Mid Wales Opera perform Madam Butterfly Mid Wales Opera, firmly established as one of the UK’s foremost touring opera companies has chosen Madam Butterfly to follow its highly praised production of Verdi’s Falstaff.

The fated love story of Cio-Cio San, Madam Butterfly and Pinkerton, the American Officer is one of the most well-loved operas of all time. Puccini merges Western and Eastern music perfectly, bringing to life this tragedy of love across continents and cultures.

Stephen Barlow, opera and theatre director, whose 2010 Tosca for Opera Holland Park was described by the Guardian as “the most brilliantly original production of Tosca to be seen in this country for decades”, makes his MWO debut.

Nicholas Cleobury will conduct a superb cast of young singers drawn from the National Opera Companies accompanied by MWO’s much praised orchestral emsemble.

With some of the most sumptuous music ever written for the opera stage, including the dramatic soprano aria “One Fine Day”, this brand-new production will be an intimate, beautiful and heart-rending experience for opera-goers old and new.

Reviews for Falstaff 2010

“All praise to Mid Wales Opera, whose touring version is an absolute delight. With a cast working as a team, the delivery of the text is crystal-clear and the ensembles crackle. With Nicholas Cleobury conducting a sprightly account of the sublimely mercurial score, this is altogether a treat.” (Rupert Christiansen, The Telegraph)

“In his debut as MWO’s artistic director, Nicholas Cleobury ensures a lively pace throughout,… and making the most of Amanda Holden’s witty translation.” (Rhian Evans, The Guardian)

“…this Falstaff is a potent reminder of how good MWO can be…” (Neil Fisher, The Times)
