Quarantine will be touring Entitled in the UK this autumn, visiting Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Thursday 6 – Friday 7 October. Performances will start at 7.30pm and there will be a free post show talk on the Thursday. During this time Quarantine’s The Soldier’s Song will also be showing in ‘the box’ at Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s main foyer from 12 noon – 7.30pm.Entitled is about hope and disappointment – and trying to make your life complete. It takes the form of a get-in and a get-out: the usually hidden choreography of transforming a theatre from an empty space into a stage for a show – and back again. Artistic Director, Richard Gregory says: “Entitled puts three theatre technicians centre stage and invites us into their world. Its performers – including a dancer who’s finding her voice, a guitarist who used to be a dancer and a writer who wants to dance – step aside from their rehearsal to tell us what’s really going on in their lives. In some ways, it’s a show that never happens – asking us to think about how we live right now, rather than looking to the past or the future ” Quarantine is interested in asking questions about who should be seen on stage and who theatre is for, making theatre that is bold and ambitious yet widely accessible. Their work is about the here and now. Past projects have included shared meals, family parties and a journey in the dark for one person at a time – as well as performances on stage, watched by audiences in seats. Entitled premiered in Manchester at the Royal Exchange Theatre in July. The autumn tour follows a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe as part of the British Council’s Edinburgh Showcase in August. The Soldier’s Song, which will be showing in ‘the box’ in the arts centre’s main foyer, is a film developed over an eighteen month period of conversation and questions. The Soldier’s Song offers an intimate screen karaoke liaison with a currently serving soldier. A simple, quietly provocative piece that questions our role as observer and the relationship we have with the person we meet on screen. Viewing The Soldier’s Song in ‘the box’ is free! Tickets for Entitled are £14 (£13) CC £13 (£12). To book contact Aberystwyth Arts Centre ticket office 01970 62 32 32 or go online www.aber.ac.uk/artscentre |
