THREE PRODUCTIONS ON TOUR!

THREE PRODUCTIONS ON TOUR!
Canolfan Arad Goch, in the heart of Aberystwyth, has been an extremely busy venue over the past few weeks, as Arad Goch Theatre Company prepared three productions ready to tour the whole of Wales between September 5 – December 16.

‘This is the first time that Arad Goch has toured three productions at the same time, and we’re extremely fortunate that we have the facilities to allow us to develop and rehearse several productions at the same time. It has been really exciting to see old faces and new faces arriving here on a daily basis, actors, musicians, directors, set designers, costume designers and technicians and we’re very proud of all three productions’
Jeremy Turner, Cyfarwyddwr Artistig Arad Goch.

‘Cler Hudol a’r Bwyd Symudol’ We were approached by Welsh TV presenters Alun Williams and Anthony Evans last year as they were very keen to develop a theatre production for children and families. Al and Ant are well known faces on S4C children’s series STWFFIO and STWNSH SADWRN, and we were very keen to work with them to develop their ideas and create a brand new production.

Over the past few months Al and Ant have been working with actress Lowri Sion and Director Angharad Lee to develop the script and after rehearsing here at Arad Goch, they started their tour in Llanfyllin High School, before touring to theatres and community venues across Wales. The final performance will be held at Theatre Bro Alaw Bodedern this weekend.

Audiences across Wales have thoroughly enjoyed Al and Ant’s first ever theatre production and already asking us to consider a second tour! Al and Ant have thoroughly enjoyed performing to live audiences across Wales and are very keen to develop further productions with us in the future, despite the fact that they both agree that theatre is much harder than television!

‘On your marks, ready, go!’
‘On Your Marks’ is a brand new bilingual production for primary school children, based on a young girl called Lisa who is running a race. As she runs she re lives her past and thinks about life when she was a little girl, playing and shopping with her friends, competing with her older brother Dewi and listening to advice from her grand parents. Will she reach her goal? Will she succeed in her mission and what about the future? This gripping performance grips your attention until the very end.

The production was developed by actress Ffion Wyn Bowen and Arad Goch’s Artistic Director Jeremy Turner. Ffion is a keen runner and the idea came to her during her training for the London Marathon earlier this year. This is a one woman and one musician show, and Ffion’s energetic performance is complemented by musician Simon Lovett’s exciting and experimental live music, and Cordellia Ashwell’s cleverly designed set and backdrop.
‘On your Marks’ first performance took place in Penrhyncoch Primary School on the 5th of September and will continue touring until the 16th of December with their final performance at New Quay primary school.

‘Arad Goch has never been too shy to tackle sensitive and hard hitting issues – and thank goodness or that’
Meleri Wyn James, Crash 2005.

‘CRASH’ was the final production to leave the Arad Goch building last week, and CRASH will be touring high schools and community venues from now until the 25th of November.

The drama itself was commissioned by Arad Goch in 2001 and written by Sera Moore Williams. CRASH is respected and performed on an international level and was also shortlisted for the Brian Way Drama prize, a highly acclaimed prize for theatre work for young audiences.
In 2005, Arad Goch took CRASH on tour around High Schools in Ceredigion, and following an overwhelming response we are asked to produce an extended tour in 2007. In 2007 we performed in high schools and public performances with several young people attending the theatre for the first time to see this work.

CRASH is currently on the WJEC syllabus and with hundreds of students currently studying the play in high schools across Wales. We have extended the tour to seven weeks of performances, but we are already being approached for additional performances!

CRASH is a play about love, through the eyes of three high school pupils, ‘Elin’, ‘Wes’ and ‘Rhys’. As they struggle to cope with their exam revision they face difficult personal decisions as they try their best to ‘fit in’ and crave excitement in their daily lives. CRASH deals with several issues that we can all relate to as we crave love, care, excitement and a better life.

Llŷr Edwards is the only original cast member taking part in this years performance. Alongside Llyr will be three young actors, Ceri Mill from Bangor is playing ‘Elin’, an experienced TV actress who has also worked with several theatre companies here in Wales. Craig Walkley and Gethin Evans have recently graduated from Glamorgan Univeristy, where they were taught by the author and production director Sera Moore Williams! Gethin has worked with Sherman Cymru and 3D but this is Craig’s first ever theatre tour. Craig recently played the part of a ‘Trojan Warrior’ in the film Clash of the Titans

Two, but he admits that ‘Wes’ is a far more challenging role!
