Monmouth’s Savoy Theatre has unveiled astrologer, actor and star of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, Russell Grant, as its new Patron. Chris Ryde, Chair of the Savoy Charitable Trust that now leases and runs the theatre, expressed the delight of all the Trustees at the news: “We are thrilled to have Russell’s support. He used to live near to Monmouth for a number of years and was the obvious person to ask. He accepted the invitation immediately. We shall now be following his exploits on Strictly very closely.” Russell has described the invitation as “A privilege”. He went on “People know me mainly as an astrologer, but I am a trained actor and work now on many community projects mainly in Wales. My job as Patron is to help the Savoy not only survive but flourish and encourage as many members of the local community as possible, young and old, to use it.” Russell’s first job has Patron is to spearhead the Trust’s application for a sizable grant to the NatWest Community Force programme. From September 26th until October 23rd the public can vote for projects in their area and the top three will get a grant from NatWest of £6,000.
