Life imitates art for Cardiff theatre production

Life imitates art for Cardiff theatre production It’s a case of life imitating art in Orbit Theatre’s latest production of Copacabana as its two leading actors who play a couple in the show, are also a couple in real life. Talented locals Nia Collier and Steve Coleman play Lola and Tony in Barry Manilow’s classic musical at the New Theatre from Tuesday 25 – Saturday 29 October.

Cardiff’s no. 1 amateur theatre company Orbit returns to the New Theatre with this classic story Lola, a young girl with stars in her eyes, who travels to New York with the dream of breaking into show business. There she finds love with Tony, an aspiring songwriter who helps her to become a Copa girl at the hottest nightspot in town, the Copacabana. When rival nightclub owner Rico spots Lola, he kidnaps her and takes her to his Tropicana club in Havana. Desperate to rescue his new love, Tony heads for Cuba…

Their tale of love and romance on the way to stardom has captivated millions with its original songs by Barry Manilow, dazzling costumes and sensational choreography. Copacabana stars some of Wales’ most talented young performers led by Nia and Steve.

Recent Orbit productions at the New Theatre have included The Full Monty, Wizard of Oz and most recently My Fair Lady.

Copacabana is at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Tuesday 25 – Saturday 29 October. Tickets range from £8.50 - £18.50 and can booked via the Box Office on 029 2087 8889 or online* at www.newtheatrecardiff.co.uk
