Wales Millennium Centre’s Nine Creative Organisations welcomes the public backstage

Wales Millennium Centre’s nine creative organisations will be holding an Open Day this Saturday, 5 November 2011, which will give the public an insight into the workings of the whole Centre. Free guided tours, workshops, talks and performances will take place in and around the Centre designed to create a fun filled day for the whole family.

The Centre’s annual Open Day will give visitors of all ages the opportunity to try something new and develop their skills in the arts. There will be opportunities to talk to the Centre’s staff and residents, giving visitors a real insight of all aspects of the arts centre. Free tours of the Centre will also give people the chance to see the inner workings of the Donald Gordon Theatre, from the heights of the fly tower to the depths of the orchestra pit; tours of the Resident’s spaces including BBC Hoddinott Hall and National Dance Company Wales’ Dance House.

Free performances from a number of the Centre’s Resident Organisations will also be on offer as well as an opportunity to take part in a variety of workshops from craft to hip hop.

Highlights of the Open Day include:

· A visit from the Dr Who Tardis
· Performances by members of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales at Hoddinott Hall
· Walkabout acts, the Balloonatics, will be creating balloon art around the Centre
· Free Technical taster tours and backstage tours
· Artist Surgery
· National Dance Company Wales’s Jumpstart – An opportunity for 9 to 12 year olds to get to learn some dance steps
· Learn to sing Opera in Welsh National Opera’s singing club
· Get creative in our drop in Mini Make & Do craft workshop
· Free performances from Literature Wales, Tŷ Cerdd and the Urdd will be taking place on the Glanfa stage
· A taster workshop with the Centre’s Young Company on the Donald Gordon stage

Conrad Lynch, Artistic Director of Wales Millennium Centre says: “Wales Millennium Centre throws open its doors this Saturday for an “access all areas” day where visitors can explore and discover the Centre and all that we have to offer. We’re joining forces with our resident companies so we can give people the very best insight experience and a real taste of the arts as well as a whole day of free activities”
