Fantastic Mr Fox - Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s Christmas 2011 production

Fantastic Mr Fox - Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s
Christmas 2011 production
From the company that presented last year's ‘The Wizard of Oz' comes Roald Dahl's much-loved story ‘Fantastic Mr Fox'!

Aberystwyth Arts Centre are delighted to present this fantastic Roald Dahl family classic - Fantastic Mr Fox is an ideal pre-Christmas family treat! With his usual flourish, Dahl evokes a magical animal world that promises to delight the young and not so young!

Mr. Fox finds that he may have stolen one hen too many when Farmers Boggis, Bunce and Bean, one short, one fate and one lean, conspire to rid their fields of the Fox Family once and for all. The farmers pit modern technology against the wit of the creatures of the countryside. Certain to die of starvation, the ingenious Mr Fox hatches a remarkable plan that will ensure full stomachs for not only his family, but all his friends and also sort out those horrible farmers for good. All they have to do is start digging...

Director Richard Hull said, “I am very pleased with the cast who have come together to join us for this year's show. Broadway composer and actor Jak Poore has joined the company to provide the original music used in the show, as well as playing Mr Fox himself! Jak recently appeared on 42nd Street in the Broadway transfer of Skellig as well as being composer and musical director for that production. He is joined by Rachel West as Mrs Fox who also provides the stunning choreography for show. Completing the cast are Ross Doodson as Farmer Boggis who has been the musical director for many shows with me, both here at the Arts Centre and in Shropshire.

Farmer Bunce is played by London based actor musician Matt Harrison who also appeared on Broadway with Jak in Skellig, and the cider swilling Farmer Bean is played by Stephen Wright who played the Tinman in last year's production of The Wizard of Oz as well as being one of our Youth Theatre directors. Local actor Ryan Woodruff takes the role of Mr Badger, who narrates our story. Ryan is a former graduate of the University, and has recently worked on Macbeth and appeared in The Mayor Of Casterbridge.

Alongside the six actors playing these roles, we have over thirty local youngsters from the Arts Centre's Stage School. Youth Theatre and Dance School playing the Moles, Weasels, Rabbits, Rats and Villagers. They have worked so hard over the past few months in order to create this magical piece and as ever have been professional in their approach from start to finish. I think it essential that members of our regular weekly classes have the opportunity to work alongside professional actors and performers, and I am delighted that the Arts Centre provides this unique opportunity to our local community performers.”

Roald Dahl was one of the greatest children's authors of the twentieth century. His characters are either totally good, or totally evil - one of the major reasons why his books are still as popular today as they were when first published. David Wood's adaptation remains true to the original story and successfully brings to life both the loveable and despicable characters in the piece.

Fantastic costumes, set, music and acting all combine to make this Christmas production the ideal pre-festive treat for all of the family.

This community production is given by arrangement with Samuel French Ltd.
