ABERYSTWYTH STORYTELLING FESTIVAL

ABERYSTWYTH STORYTELLING FESTIVAL ABERYSTWYTH ARTS CENTRE 2ND- 4th Dec 2011

Storytelling, whether tales told simply around an open fire beneath a crescent moon, or performed in theatres under the glare of arc lights , or stories made up as children drift into dreamworld, is as important in our lives as it has ever been. Stories connect us to our roots, our communities and in an age of uncertainty allow us to give thought to our futures.

The Magical Illuminarium, in collaboration with Aberystwyth Arts Centre and the Crick Crack Club are bringing together storytellers from around the world for a weekend of tales to tickle the toes and stories to seduce the senses, for the very first storytelling festival in this salty little seaside town of Aberystwyth.

Jan Blake and TUUP will be telling Spook Stories, Voodoo stories from the Caribbean and Africa on Saturday night, and tales from Africa for children on Sunday afternoon.

Martin Maudsley from Bristol will be telling Tales of Old Tom, his Grandfather from Lancashire on Friday, Welsh storyteller Guto Dafis tells Breton Tales, American Alison Matthews will be performing Eve Speaks, stories of the Garden of Eden, Sue Jones Davies tells Taliesin, Cath Little from Cardiff with Midwinter Stories , Fiona Collins Stories from North Wales, Josian Fauzou’s Tales of Mauritius, and there will be stories from the Young Storyteller of Wales, Bronwen Hughes, as well as a host of local storytellers who will be storytelling and running workshops, along with music and song from leading local musicians, and the puppetry of Alexandra Shiva Melis.

There will be opportunites to tell stories, hear children’s stories on Saturday morning with Milly Jackdaw and Sue Stoppani, Young Storytellers workshops, and the whole weekend will end on Sunday evening with a Grand Fest Noz, a Breton Dance with Kantref in the Foyer Bar. Come one and all.....

Festival pass costs £15, or the evening events can be booked separately, at £6 (£4) or £8 (£6), and most of the daytime events are free!
