Earthfall get ‘Connected’ as part of their Free2fall Education and Participation Project

The Free2Fall Project- run by Earthfall’s Education and Participation Programme presents ‘Connected’, a dance performance focusing on the search of the individual voice in a crowded globalized and technological world. Featuring 10 dancers, 3 musicians and 5 film students, the company have a performance on Saturday 10th December at Northampton University’s Winter Sharing Platform.

Connected features overall 14 students of Connections Dance Company from Cardiff Metropolitan University (formerly UWIC), 3 musicians from The Royal College of Music and Drama who have also composed the music for the show, and 5 film students from The School of Film, Photography & Digital Media, Faculty of Arts and Business and University of Wales Newport, who have also created live projections to use throughout the piece. The Free2Fall Project is led by tutors Sarah Rogers and Rosalind Brooks.

Involving a 20 week rehearsal process -that will be completed by February 2012- and working with Earthfall’s choreographic methodologies, the final 15-20 minute performance will be a mixture of movement, live music, visual imagery and use of voice.

The performance reflects a search for the human being with an individual voice in a crowded manipulated world. The movement has come from the dancers’ interpretations of choreography tasks, together with their own personal histories and explores how we can become lost in the crowd albeit constantly connected to one another through modern technology. Individuals and duets explode from the crowd before imploding again, immersed by the 14 strong cast of dancers.

The opening night of Connected will be on Saturday 10th December at Northampton University in their Winter Sharing Platform. Possible further performances in 2012 include showcases at Cardiff Metropolitan University and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and performances in February at the annual Youth Dance Platform in Bridgend.
