As part of its ongoing VOICES workshop series, Swansea based Volcano Theatre Company is organising a weekend voice and theatre workshop on 4th & 5th May to be held at The Taliesin Arts Centre (Annexe). The weekend will be led by one of Europe's leading voice practitioners, Noah Pikes. Volcano is committed to bringing leading practitioners in the field of theatre and voice to Swansea, offering a unique opportunity for both professionals and amateurs to work with internationally acclaimed teachers and performers. Noah Pikes is a founding member of the Roy Hart Theatre. Based in Zurich, he has taught and lectured at the C.G. Jung Institute and various centres in the U.K, Europe and the USA. He is author of Dark Voices: The Genesis of Roy Hart Theatre. Noah Pikes' work with The Whole Voice is rooted in the pioneering researches of Alfred Wolfsohn and Roy Hart. The current interest in voice began with them. Noah began his studies with Roy Hart in 1967 and performed in many performances of Roy Hart Theatre until 1990. In recent years he has worked as a soloist exploring the instrumental dimensions of the voice, interweaving song, theatre, clowning, poetry, storytelling, improvisation and composition alone and with improvising musicians. Over the two days we will cover basic voice training (body and breath work), movement, group and individual explorations, chanting, creative play, vocal improvisations, visualisations, rituals and choral singing. The cost of the weekend workshop is £60 (full price) or £50 (unwaged, disabled, student, pensioner). Places on the workshop are limited to sixteen, so participants are advised to book early. The workshop is open and accessible to all, regardless of experience and ability. The Taliesin Annexe has wheelchair access.
