This autumn Actorsworkshop has moved into a new office at Chapter, undergone a rebrand and commissioned a new website. The small company, started in February 2001, has steadily grown and is planning to open more doors to the performing industries. “In January 2012”, Jamie Lee, Actorsworkshop’s Artistic Director confirms, “we’ll have 5 workshops a week at Chapter, our new musical youth theatre at Llanover and start promoting a screen acting series”. It’s become important for Actorsworkshop to have a permanent base. 1-2-1 sessions and coaching is a substantial part of their work and with the move they now have a great office facility with an informal meeting space to help them offer more 1-2-1 sessions. Jamie commented “We’ve always been a resource for aspiring actors or those wishing to use acting to get more confidence and now we have our own space for this”. Their growth and notoriety is impressive, they started in 2001 with a small group of people who wanted access to professionals and training, now they offer five weekly stage-acting workshops at differing competency levels and at Easter they will start a screen acting series too. Actorsworkshop have recently issued a recruitment advert for an Associate Director. “We are looking for an industry professional working on screen projects to oversee a new screen acting series”, David Wilson, Actorsworkshop’s Executive Director explains. “Our philosophy has always been getting access to those doing the job, so we are inviting applications from those involved in TV and film to direct a new course and take a number of workshops with support from guests working across the sector”. David continues “with the BBC’s drama department moving to Cardiff Bay and independent TV companies looking at South Wales it’s important for us to provide a link to the industry. Our members ask about the differences in acting technique from stage to screen and we’ve provided one-off insight sessions before but now we’ll focus on the screen industry fully.” The series will start next Easter and sit alongside Actorsworkshop’s established workshop programme. Each week they hold five workshops and work with over 80 people interested in acting. Participants have gone onto more formal training at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, RADA, Arts Ed, Oxford School of Drama, and also made the leap into the industry. Ben Syder, now a professional actor based in London found his interest and talent with Actorsworkshop. “They were instrumental in my development” Ben happily states. “I mean I wanted to act seriously, and they really helped, but it’s OK too if you just want to go along for fun. Everything I learnt made me a better performer but you don’t have to want to be an actor, most people just wanted to enjoy themselves and develop their own personal skills. I’m now working professionally and Actorsworkshop supported me to get to this point.” Actorsworkshop offer workshop packages, training courses and personalised sessions for people wanting to act, preparing for an audition or just honing performance skills for personal benefit. With so much on offer they felt a re-brand and new website was needed. “Alongside our new office we wanted to refresh our look” David said. “It’s been ten years and time to think again about what we say to participants and time for us to make sure we are offering the right combination of professional training and support.” Jamie commented “our new website will help you decide what workshop is suitable for you and break down what we’ll have on offer. With so many workshops a week and with us looking to grow again its important for us to make everything clear”. The new website’s just getting its final developmental touches so in the meantime just email the Actorsworkshop team at info@Actorsworkshop.co.uk or call them at the office on (029) 2125 0566. |
