“Script Call Out”

“Script Call Out” The ‘It’s My Shout’ Television Trainee Scheme has opened its script call out for the 2012 summer production period in association with BBC Wales Cymru. Any budding writer who was born in, or currently lives in, Wales can send in 10-minute television scripts and have the chance to get them produced up to broadcast standard and transmitted on BBC Wales Cymru later this year. Writers can send in as many scripts as they like, but entries must be sent saved either as a pdf or Microsoft Word file as well as posting 3 hard copies. Full guidelines for entries and an application form can be found on the It’s My Shout website (www.itsmyshout.co.uk). Please check these before writing your script. The closing date for applications is at 12 midday on 3rd February 2011.

The training scheme is a unique summer initiative for young people looking to explore media industry jobs including; Writing, Acting, Directing, Camera work, Sound, Lighting, Set & Prop design, Costume, Make-up & Hair, Production co-ordinating and Events management, by providing hands-on training alongside skilled industry professionals. Previous participants in this annual scheme have gone on to study their chosen area on FE or HE courses and many of the experienced trainees gain employment within the industry as a direct result of the scheme.

Trainees and professionals work together at all stages of production. The It’s My Shout scheme offers people from all backgrounds the opportunity to experience the skills and crafts used in the creative industry.

The writers of last year’s scripts have been invited to work with script editors at the BBC on longer programmes. One of them, William Smith, said about the experience, “I’ve just finished the first draft of a thirty page script for a drama pilot. It’s all very exciting.”

Each summer at It’s My Shout we produce 6 x 10 minute films as part of the national summer television training scheme and in 2011 as many as 1,000 young people took part from across Wales at various stages of production. The scheme has proved to be an outstanding success and the last three years have been supported by BBC Wales Cymru who also broadcast the films in the Autumn as well as a 30 minute ‘behind-the-scenes’ documentary. This is all part of the “Made in Wales” series.

The films are premiered towards the end of the year at a much anticipated, star-studded, red carpet awards ceremony and they are then broadcast on BBC Wales a few days later. Previous guests at the Premiere have included Gavin and Stacey’s Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon and Hollywood’s Michael Sheen. As we’re celebrating our 10th birthday, we’re going to make it even bigger and better in 2012.

It’s My Shout operates training programmes throughout the year, from community projects to feature films- all with the focus on nurturing new talent in Wales.
