AGOR DRYSAU – OPENING DOORS 2012 – TWO MONTHS TO GO!

AGOR DRYSAU – OPENING DOORS 2012 – TWO MONTHS TO GO! In exactly two months time the seaside town of Aberystwyth will be full to the brim with artists from all corners of the world as we start a whole week of fun and performances in the 7th AGOR DRYSAU – OPENING DOORS FESTIVAL!

The Festival , which is organised every two years by Aberystwyth based Theatre Company Arad Goch, is Wales’ International Performing Arts Festival for Young Audiences, this is the only Festival of its kind in Wales and provides children, young people and families with a fantastic opportunity to sample some of the best International performances here in Wales.

‘Over the past twelve months five of us have been busy travelling to all corners of the globe in search for the best performances to include in this year’s Festival. We are pleased to announce that there will be 16 performances taking part, ranging from theatre to dance, music, puppetry, poetry and film as well as several seminars and social events during the evening. There truly is something to suit everyone in this year’s programme. Jeremy Turner, Arad Goch’s Artistic Director.

Performers from Wales include Theatr Iolo, Run Ragged Productions, Mess up the Mess, Franwen, Screen and Sound Archive of Wales, Y Beirdd and Arad Goch . These performances will encorporate theatre, film, poetry, puppetry and much more.

Amongst the six foreign companies taking part in this year’s Festival are ’16 Rue De Plaisance’, a French Company who will be returning to the Festival for the second time and five other companies attending the Festival for the first time including ‘Consol Theatre Gelsenkirchen’ from Germany, who will be performing a hilarious production – ‘Eagle Calling Hawk’ about two boys having a sleepover, ‘Nico and Martin’ from Ireland who will be performing ‘Instant Orchestra’an interactive piece which invites the audience to join the 120 piece orchestra, ‘Branar’ also from Ireland who are performing two beautiful stories through the use of puppetry, ‘Norrdans’ from Sweden who will be performing a mysterious and comical dance piece and ‘Ballet Nimba’ who will combine traditional Guinean dance and music in their production ‘Saiyama and Payapaya’.

For the first time in the history of AGOR DRYSAU – OPENING DOORS, there will be a theme, and the chosen theme is sports. The Festival has been lucky enough to be awarded with the Cultural Olympics Inspire Mark for 2012, and for this reason the sporting theme will be apparent in performances such as ‘On Your Marks – Arad Goch’ , as well as in seminars and evening events as we explore the similarities between performing on stage and in the field.
