Avenue Q is back! The Tony award-winning and hugely successful hit musical Avenue Q returns to Cardiff for one week only, at the New Theatre from Tuesday 21 – Saturday 25 February 2012. Hilarious and uproariously entertaining with songs performed by a cast of hugely talented actors and puppets, Avenue Q enjoyed enormous success both on Broadway and in London. Witty, rude and extremely funny, it tackles subjects such as dating, racism and being gay. This wickedly funny musical is about the lovably hopeless characters on a downtown New York street trying to make sense of life’s burning issues: love, work, relationships and, above all, just how are you supposed to pay the bills with a BA in English? Princeton is a bright-eyed college graduate new to the area, desperate to follow his dreams. A tiny bank balance, the distraction of a busty blonde and a variety of weird and wonderful friends and neighbours lead him on a journey of self-discovery. The national tour is staged by Associate Director Evan Ensign, who previously worked on the Broadway production. The 2012 cast includes Sam Lupton as Princeton and Rod; Chris Thatcher returns to play the roles of Nicky, Trekkie and Bear, following his performances in Avenue Q in the West End and on the inaugural UK tour; and West End actor Matt Henry returns to play Gary, a role he played in the original London production, his other West End credits include The Lion King. Katharine Moraz, who played the roles of Mrs T and Bear for the 2011 nationwide tour, will appear as Kate Monster and promiscuous Lucy; and Julia Yammanee appears as Christmas Eve. Edward Judge reprises the role of Brian and Daniella Gibb will play Mrs T and Bear. The company is completed by Luke Striffler, Jonny Fines, Kayi Ushe, Arina Li, Gabrielle Brooks and Rina Takasaki. The cast members have also worked with Nigel Plaskitt in preparation for the tour. An actor, director, animation director and producer, Nigel was puppet coach and consultant for the London production of Avenue Q. His numerous credits include the feature films The Muppet Christmas Carol, The Muppet Treasure Island, and UK tours of Peppa Pig’s Party and Spongebob Squarepants. He was one of the principal performers on the successful television series Spitting Image for 13 years, also acting as consultant on versions of the series for various European TV companies. Avenue Q is at the New Theatre from Tuesday 21 – Saturday 25 February 2012. Tickets are on sale now with prices from £9.00 to £32.50. Suggested Age 12+.
