Weston Studio Spring Season 2012

The Weston Studio is the intimate theatre at Wales Millennium Centre that presents a handpicked range of drama, physical theatre, comedy, music and children’s shows - the new 2012 Spring Season is no exception.

The Studio promises an up-close theatre experience that really makes the audience feel like they are part of something special – come and see it for yourself this spring.

Highlights from the season:

John Peel’s Shed
Monday 5 March 8pm

In 2002, John Osborne won a competition on John Peel's Radio One show. His prize was a box of records that took eight years to listen to.

Weaving the story of his life with his love of radio, Osborne has created a witty and endearing performance in which he affectionately shares the records previously owned by Peel.

This show is a unique opportunity to experience some of the obscure and inspired record choices of the man himself. It's also a funny and poignant tale of everyday life.

Aesop’s Fables
6 March 1pm

The problem is the Mouse doesn’t want to get eaten by the Lion, the Lion really wants to eat the Mouse, and the Tortoise …well, the Tortoise just wants to eat its lettuce sandwich.

As these animal raconteurs try to distract each other, they share some of the most famous moral tales in history. This colourful musical production is a perfect introduction to the magic of live theatre for children.

Probe: May
30 March 8pm

May is a woman living on the edge. Douglas is a man living in his head. When their worlds collide, only the truth can save them.

A darkly humorous modern day romance told through a combination of dance, words and music, May is a tale of a passionate relationship between two misfits. When Douglas, a slightly befuddled social worker, meets May, a vulnerable, inarticulate self-harmer, neither of them predicts that their relationship will bring them close to destruction.

Founded in Brighton in 2004 dance theatre company Probe is the brainchild of former Rambert dancer, Antonia Grove.

7 Day Drunk
Friday 4 May 8pm

During a 7 day scientific experiment, Bryony Kimmings was kept in various states of drunkenness while creating the material for this riotous one-woman show. But did the booze make her a better artist?

2 parts song and dance routine, 1 part emotional breakdown, Bryony combines hilarious antics and crazy costumes with a twist of sobering reality. 7 Day Drunk is a poignant take on the effects of alcohol on performers, artists and their creations.
