Edinburgh sell-out play to be performed in historic Cardiff pub |
Following a huge sell-out success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2009, Barflies, a play which is performed inside a pub will be coming to old The Vulcan Hotel in the City Centre of Cardiff in March. Barflies takes a look at the pains and glories of drunkenness and all the humour, horror, hope and devastation it can bring. Brought to life by the multi award winning theatre company, Grid Irons, Barflies is based on the short stories and poems of cult American writer Charles Bukowski. The play is about Bukowski’s rumbustious encounter with his alter-ego Henry Chinaski and a bevvy of the women who shaped his life and work. Grid Iron’s are renowned for staging theatre in unexpected and unusual locations and something which Sherman Cymru, who programmed the piece as part of their opening season, were keen to support. During its two year closure period, Sherman Cymru used variations locations around the city for their own productions and although the theatre now has a new home, it still wants to bring unique site specific work to Cardiff. Barflies will be performed at one of the oldest pubs in Cardiff, The Vulcan Hotel, on Adam Street, which is due to close later this year. Audience can arrive up to half an hour before the show, order their drinks and enjoy the entertainment that unfolds. Grid Iron’s Barflies, will be at the Vulcan Hotel, Adam Street, Cardiff from 20-24 March. Times vary, please see www.shermancymru.co.uk for further details. Tickets are £15. Under 25s can receive up to 50% off their tickets. This is an 18+ performance and contains scenes of a strong sexual nature. For further information and tickets, please contact Sherman Cymru’s Ticket Office on 029 2064 6900 or visit www.shermancymru.co.uk. There will be a site specific theatre symposium discussion at Sherman Cymru on 24 March between 2pm-4pm. |
