MEET THE ARTIST, SEE THE ART

MEET THE ARTIST, SEE THE ART This spring National Dance Company Wales, (NDCWales), will break down barriers between artist and audience at its home the Dance House in Cardiff Bay. From March to May people will be able to watch art being created and hear the artists, choreographers and photographers talk about the ideas behind it in Meet the Artist See the Art.

The season opens on 24th March with new work and older favourites from five Wales-based artists, including a debut all-female dance from Matthew Howells and an exploration of Celtic cultural identity from Siriol Joyner and Ruarirí Donovan.

On 14th April there is a special collaboration between four Company dance artists. Choreographers Eleesha Drennan and Lee Johnston will work with designer Joe Fletcher on two separate dances. One explores positive fears, while the other manipulates the relationship between movement and light. Photographer and Company Artistic Associate Roy Campbell-Moore launches his In the Flow series about the creative process of dance and photography.

“Meet the Artist, See the Art is a key project for NDCWales, helping to support dance artists as they develop their work with new ideas and ways to communicate,” said Artistic Director Ann Sholem. “It’s a great way to share our passion and originality at the Dance House.”

Later in May there is a unique chance to see the early stages of Joanna Young’s new ensemble work which investigates social patterns, instinct and the act of re-creating. In May Meet the Artist See the Art showcases two eye-catching and beautiful dance productions from the acclaimed Natya STEM Dance Kampni of India.

There is also the opportunity to watch one of the world’s greatest choreographers, Christopher Bruce, working with National Dance Company Wales dancers as he creates a new work for Dance GB, the Olympic-inspired project from NDCWales, Scottish Ballet and English National Ballet.

The season closes with the Cardiff performance of Dance GB at Wales Millennium Centre from 28 to 30 June. The three UK dance companies join forces for the first time in a ground-breaking national celebration of dance inspired by the 2012 London Olympics and the coming together of the British nations for Team GB.
