Gritty city drama looks at the ups and down of twenty somethingsA play about coming of age, friendship and growing up in the city, Wasted, comes to the new Sherman Cymru, Cardiff on Saturday 24 March at 8pm. This is the debut play by poet and rapper Kate Tempest, who also performs on BBC Radio 1’s favourites Sound of Rum. Paines Plough, Birmingham Repertory Theatre and the Roundhouse have teamed up to produce Wasted, a play about friendship, love, life and losing your mind, of freedom and wanting more from your life. Writer, poet and musician Kate Tempest, has written a play about three close friends who live in the city and grew up together in South London. Ted, Danny and Charlotte have known each other all their lives. They shared everything, their hopes and dreams of the future. Now in their mid-twenties, life hasn’t turned out like they thought it would. Ted is in a dead end job and under pressure from his long-term girlfriend to settle down. Danny is in a band that should be the next big thing, but never is. Charlotte isn’t sure she’s cut out for teaching after all. There used to be a fourth member of the gang, Tony, who died ten years ago to the day. Ted, Danny and Charlotte reflect on a life tragically cut short, and wonder if they’ve wasted their own lives. Each of them knows they have to change things but just don’t know how. Writer of Wasted, Kate Tempest is a talented artist, who also is a poet, rapper and is also part of the hip hop inspired live three piece band, Sound of Rum - who have recently signed with UK independent label Sunday Best. Over the last few years she has toured to all the main festivals with her work, including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, the Big Chill and Latitude as well as having gigged all over London, in venue's as grand as Camden's Koko and London's Barbican Centre. She even recently featured on Channel and on Edith Bowman’s weekend show on BBC Radio One. Directing the play is James Grieve, who is also co-Artistic Director of Paines Plough. He was formerly co-founder and Artistic Director of nabokov for 10 years and Associate Director of the Bush Theatre. Bringing the set to life will be Cai Dyfan, who recently worked on National Theatre Wales’s The Social and Sherman Cymru’s and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s recent production, Sgint. Wasted will be at the new Sherman Cymru, Cardiff on 24 March at 8pm. Tickets are £14. Under 25s can receive up to 50% off their tickets.
