National Dance Company Wales welcomes Indian dance partner on debut Welsh tourThis spring National Dance Company Wales, (NDCWales) hosts an acclaimed Indian dance company on its debut Welsh tour. Natya STEM Dance Kampni of Bangalore will visit Brecon, Swansea, Cardiff, Pontypridd and Wrexham from 30th April to 11th May as part of an artistic exchange with NDCWales. Natya STEM will present Vajra (Diamond), a multimedia production that uses Kathak, – a classical Indian dance style – martial arts and contemporary dance to create poetic interpretations of the duality of diamonds and lightning. The tour also showcases Sanjog, which uses six Kathak dancers to show the purity and virtuosity of the dance style that inspired flamenco. The east-west relationship between NDCWales and STEM began in August 2010 through a British Council grant; in December 2011 NDCWales was hosted by STEM in India. The Company performed in three of India’s biggest cities and shared its passion for high-quality dance through workshops with local dance students, symposiums and dance photography. “Our ongoing relationship with Natya STEM Dance Kampni provides a fascinating insight into dance cultures from other countries. This tour gives Welsh audiences the chance to see this beautiful and compelling performance,” said NDCWales Artistic Associate and founder Roy Campbell-Moore. STEM’s performance at the Dance House in Cardiff is part of NDCWales’ Meet the Artist, See the Art season which offers audiences intimate artistic encounters. The tour visits Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon on 30 April; Taliesin Arts Centre, Swansea on 3rd March; Dance House, Cardiff on 5th May; Muni Arts Centre, Pontypridd on 9th May and Theatr Stiwt on 11th May. |
