Over 160 plays on a page on display at the new Sherman Cymru |
To celebrate the opening of Sherman Cymru, the theatre is displaying over 160 plays around the new building, covering the foyer walls and even the backs of toilet doors. Sherman Cymru re-opened a month ago following a 2 year redevelopent of its theatre building and to as part of the re-opening, the company wanted to christen the building with words from their particpants and audiences. Sherman Cymru launched a Play on a Page to challenge people of all ages and backgrounds to write a play or story on one side of a page of A4. Associate Director, Roisin McBrinn said, “We had a fantastic response to a Play on a Page. There were over 160 submissions which are now on display on the walls, loos, doors and bars of the new Sherman Cymru theatre building in Cardiff. We are displaying everyone’s submission . We’ve had entries in Welsh and English, scripts and short stories, fiction and non fiction stories. We’ve even had drawings and illustrations from children as young as four. Some of the plays are satirical, others are heart-felt romances and joyously, we’ve had lots of comedies! If you search hard enough you could even find the meaning of life amongst some of the ideas.” 168 Plays on a Page have been on display at Sherman Cymru since 5 March and will finish on 31 March. If you fancy a little light reading on a lunchtime, grab yourself a coffee and some lunch or come a little earlier before a show to read these beautiful stories.” The Plays on a Page are on display at Sherman Cymru, Senghennydd Road, Cardiff until 31 March. Sherman Cymru is open from 10am – 11pm Monday – Saturday. For further information about Play on a Page please visit www.shermancymru.co.uk |
