Experience At Swim Two Boys – a tragic love story told in 1000 litres of water – through 4 artists individual interpretationsAn installation of artistic works, which range from projected Images to sculptures, will be presented at Y Llofft, Chapter Arts Centre on Saturday 17th March from 10:00 – 18:00. These art works distil the fusion of extreme physicality, literature, original live music and film that is captured by Earthfall’s sell out production At Swim Two Boys. Creative Fine Art and Digital Media students from the University of Glamorgan and Cardiff Metropolitan University offer their interpretations and experiences of Earthfall’s production, through their own creative disciplines. Distilling Dance, Literature, Music and Film This project emerged as a creative response from observing physical movement created at a residency project with second year dance students, from Cardiff Metropolitan University, at the Wales Millennium Centre in November 2011. The movement was based on At Swim Two Boys, with specific reference to the themes Love, War and Water. The collective exhibition of art has been a progress shared through the Tumblr website where discussions on development ideas and images may be found (www.tumblr.com). At Swim Two Boys is a story which juxtaposes the developing love affair between two young men in 1916, on the verge of national liberation in Ireland. “The darker tug of erotic tension and the fear of self-revelation is also finely observed in the aggressive thrashing heft of the choreography”. The Guardian – Judith Mackrell Feb 2012 The artistic elements within the displayed work may be interpreted and analysed by the audience, provoking questions and possibilities. “An ambivalent set of questions can be asked – is s/he sitting by a river, by the sea, or by a pool? Is this pool a rock pool, a swimming pool, or an oasis? Is it an indoor swimming pool, or outdoors? Is s/he waiting for someone or something, or comfortably alone?”. L. M. H. C Jessica Cohen, co-artistic director commented ”this was a great opportunity for the emerging artists involved to experience dance as an inspiring stimulus for artists’ works, as has been explored in past projects. I am certain that it will be a very exciting experience and the outcome will be top quality”. This is a free public event, however attendance may be confirmed through Earthfall’s Facebook page or via email: http://on.fb.me/AtSwimArt education@earthfall.org.uk |
