National Dance Company Wales offers young people a taste of life as a professional dancer This spring National Dance Company Wales (NDCWales) will give young people a taste of life as a professional dancer with a specialised three-day course. Springboard is an introduction to contemporary dance for dance enthusiasts aged 13 to 21, who have some experience and are keen to learn more. The three-day course runs from 11th to 13th April at the Dance House, Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff and is led by NDCWales dancers. Springboard lets students experience the life of a professional dancer and focuses on developing technique; students learn elements of choreography in the National Dance Company Wales’ current repertoire. The opportunity to work within a professional company alongside the creative team is invaluable to young dancers who are considering a career in dance. Springboard is run by NDCWales and Arts Active, a Cardiff-based organisation that supports education, community and audience engagement through various projects. “Each year I look forward to seeing the work created during Springboard and have never been disappointed. It gets better every time,” said Arts Active Assistant Manager, Bryony Harris. “What the participants achieve in just three days is amazing.” Springboard is a key element of the Future Dance Cardiff programme of dance training, offering young dancers opportunities to access excellent professional level training in technique and creative performance. Other Future Dance courses include summerdance, an intensive week-long dance course in August which is taught by NDCWales dancers and finishes with a performance at St David’s Hall, Cardiff.
