NATIONAL THEATRE WALES ADDS A NEW MEMBER TO ITS LEADERSHIP TEAM

National Theatre Wales has appointed Michelle Carwardine-Palmer to the company’s new role of Director of Administration and Development.

Michelle is currently Executive Director at Salisbury Playhouse, where she has been hugely successful in the business and organisational development. She will join John McGrath, Artistic Director, and Lucy Davies, Executive Producer, as the third member of the company’s executive team.

Michelle will focus on the organisational core of National Theatre Wales, helping its small staff team and large family of freelancers to find dynamic new ways to support the company’s productions. She will also lead on the company's partnerships and fundraising - building on the company's reputation to help it secure new levels of support from a wide range of sources.

Announcing Michelle’s appointment, National Theatre Wales’ Artistic Director John McGrath said: “Everyone at National Theatre Wales is absolutely delighted about Michelle’s appointment as our new Director of Administration and Development. This is a very important appointment for us: a new Executive level role, joining me and Lucy Davies on the leadership team at National Theatre Wales.

“Michelle's remarkable success at Salisbury Playhouse, combined with her natural leadership qualities and warm personality, make her an ideal person to help National Theatre Wales achieve its potential in the follow-up to its acclaimed launch year. We are hugely looking forward to working with Michelle, and we hope that she, and we, will also build a warm relationship between National Theatre Wales and Salisbury in the years to come.”

Michelle said: “Since joining Salisbury Playhouse in 2007 I have enjoyed working with Artistic Directors Jo Read, Philip Wilson and Gareth Machin on creating a vibrant programme of work in both our auditoria. The Playhouse and those who work in and support it are exceptional, and it is because of this that the theatre continues to thrive.

“I am looking forward to joining John McGrath and Lucy Davies. Having studied Theatre and English at the University of Wales, Trinity St David and qualified as a mountain leader at Plas y Brenin, I am delighted to be returning to a country I hold very dear to my heart. I am incredibly excited to be joining the National Theatre Wales team in delivering first class theatrical performances throughout Wales and beyond.”
