Applications for the 2012 BBC Drama Writers Academy are now open. |
Applicants must have had at least one professional commission in either television, theatre, radio or film. Writers will need to apply online individually and to submit an original full length sample of their writing. The deadline for applications is Thursday 3rd May. The course is specifically designed to train writers to write for Casualty, Holby City, EastEnders and Doctors. Alongside training on all aspects of drama production from casting to scheduling, students will receive direct writing experience on continuing dramas, with commissions on the shows once they successfully complete the course. Creativity, talent and a passion for telling stories are essential criteria for those applying. Over 80% of course graduates are still in constant work with the BBC - two have become show runners, one has an Oscar nomination for short film, four have had commissions for original BBC 1 series, and others are writing across the industry, from Call The Midwife to Shameless, Wild at Heart and Waterloo Road.
